Joan Fischer, age 93, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and formerly of Ulysses, Kansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born October 14, 1925, in Falls City, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl and Janet (Mooney) Huber.

Joan grew up in Fall City, Nebraska. She moved to Los Angeles, California where she met and married Milton “Mike” Fischer on April 1, 1947. Joan was a hard worker and worked alongside her husband on their farm in Ulysses. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. Joan was a devout Christian and a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Joan is survived by her son, Steve Fischer and wife Carole of Park Hill, Oklahoma; daughter, Karen Young and husband Donnie of Park Hill, Oklahoma; brothers, John Huber of Fall City, Nebraska, Ralph Huber and wife Hilda of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ed Huber of Atchison, Kansas; five grandsons, Ryan Stevens, Shelby Stevens, Brock Lubbers, Jared Lubbers, and Bryce Lubbers; and one great-granddaughter, Devon Stevens.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike in 2006; and daughter, Darlene Lucero in 2013.

My condolences to the family. When I was a little kid, we used to visit Mike and family on the Ulysses farm. I was quite young but still remember the kind spirit of the family, and enjoyed listening to everyone's conversations. I had fun playing in the out buildings with the girls. Steve was older and he and my brother Martin enjoyed their own adventures. You just don't forget a loving environment, even though the memories are fading. I'm sure the Lord was with you every day. The one thing I remember as clear as if it was yesterday was the huge cardboard roll of matches on one of the living room tables. I was kind of a pyromaniac as you can imagine any male four of five year old would be, but I was well taught not to play with matches unless I had supervision. I'm sure I must have bugged poor Joan about them all the time we were there. I'll never forget you guys and gals, and I hope Jesus can heal the wounds of missing our parents. Love you all - Fred Neff

My best memories of Joan was how remarkably full of life she was -- a real live wire, a kick! From my personal experience I appreciate the hole left inside after a significant death. My sympathies to surviving family -- Steve, Carol, Karen, and your respective families. --Mike Rudnick
