Obituary for Alice F. Ochs

Alice F. Ochs, 66, died Sunday, April 7, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born December 27, 1952 in Newport, Rhode Island the daughter of John & Hilda (Ziegler) Selensky.

Alice moved to Kansas as a young child. She grew up in Park, Kansas and graduated from Wheatland High School. Alice then graduated from cosmetology school in Hays and later earned an Associates degree from Colby Community College. She then earned a Bachelor’s degree from Ft. Hays State University and a Masters degree in social work from Washburn University. She has been a resident of Garden City since 2016. On August 16, 1975, she married J. Dean Ochs in Hays, Kansas. Alice has worked as a social worker for KVC in Topeka, Kansas and currently for DCF in Garden City.

Survivors include 2 children Rae Ann & husband Dustin Mattke of Collyer, Kansas and Edward John “E.J.” & wife Brandy Ochs of Garden City, Kansas; a brother Brian Selensky of Wichita, Kansas; and five grandchildren Bailey Mattke, Allie Mattke, Raegan Mattke, Rynik Ochs, & Axton Ochs. Alice is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Church of God in Wakeeney, Kansas. A private family interment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Saint Francis Ministries Equine Therapy Program in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
