Obituary for Paul Hoover

Garden City- Paul Hoover, 91, died on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Cottages Senior Care Living in Garden City. He was born on July 12, 1927 at Liberal the son of Paul & Laraine (Deisler) Hoover. He married Helen Kaberlein on August 1, 1959 at Plains. She died on May 8, 2015.

Paul moved from Liberal to Garden City at a young age and graduated from Garden City High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict in communications and was based in Spain. After his discharge he enrolled in Kansas State University and graduated in 1958 with his degree in Business Administration. He went to work for Anthony’s in Kerrville, Texas and later was transferred to Garden City to manage the Anthony’s store there. In 1966 he and his wife opened Hoover’s Fashions in downtown Garden City which they operated until 1992. While in business he served his community by being active in the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce and in 1971 was chairman of the United Fund Drive. He was a member of St Dominic Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Harry H. Renick American Legion Post # 9. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, attending his Grandchildren’s activities and his church work. He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife & Sister- Donna Jean Jamison.

He is survived by his Son- Tom Hoover of Andover, Daughter- Rhonda Roth of Holcomb, 2 Sisters- Darlene Mathias of Garden City & Marlene Stillwell of Canon City, Colorado and 4 Grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St Dominic Catholic Church with Rev Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military rites by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and American Legion District 8 Honor Guard. Memorial are suggested to St Dominic Catholic Church or Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
