Obituary for Lois Marie Spencer
Lois Marie Spencer, age 93, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born April 5, 1926, in Stafford County, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde Walter and Jennie Mae (DeGarmo) Stimatze.
Lois grew up in Stafford. She married Orval D. Spencer on March 29, 1944, in Hopewell, Kansas. Calling Grant County home for the past 60-plus years, Lois partnered with O.D. on the farm—hauling grain to the elevator, driving tractors in the field, and working on wells and sprinklers. Lois loved her kids and grandkids and spending time with them.
Lois is survived by her son, Eugene and wife Linda of Ulysses; son-in-law, Gary Howard of Thornton, Colorado; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband O.D. Spencer in 2000; daughter, Judy Howard; four brothers, Carrol, Truman, Leon, and Orban Stimatze; two sisters, Ruby Brickey and Opal Covey; and grandson, David Clark Spencer.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
