Obituary for Virginia E. Martinez
Virginia E. Martinez, age 88, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas. She was born December 1, 1930, in Sophia, New Mexico, the daughter of Jose Sabino and Cirai (Salazar) Marquez.
Virginia, a homemaker, grew up in New Mexico. She married Louis Martinez on November 29, 1947, in Clayton, New Mexico. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Virginia spent her days raising her family and attending their ballgames. She collected antiques and enjoyed browsing through junk stores and antique shops. Virginia participated in the county fair showing her crafts.
Survivors include her children, Gilbert Martinez of Amarillo, Texas, Cathy Forbes and husband Francis of Ulysses, Connie Boese of Amarillo, Texas, Leonard Martinez and wife Rhoda of Foss, Oklahoma, Ruby Martinez of Elkhart, and Virgil Martinez of Keyes, Oklahoma; brothers, Manuel Marquez of Clayton, New Mexico, Pete Marquez of Guymon, Oklahoma, and M.C. Marquez of Arlington, Texas; sister, Nancy Salinas of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis in 2014; and one grandchild.
Rosary service will be Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 9:00 AM with funeral mass following at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart with Reverend Francis Khoi officiating. Interment will follow at Willowbar Cemetery in Keyes, Oklahoma. Friends may call Friday, June 28, 2019, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
