Obituary for Sylvia M. McVey
Sylvia M. McVey, 89, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born July 25, 1929 in Miami, Oklahoma the daughter of Robert Lee & Celia Gladys (Ford) Garber.
Sylvia grew up in Miami, Oklahoma where she attended school. On September 26, 1950, she married Donald I. McVey in Bentonville, Arkansas. They moved to Pritchett, Colorado in 1955 and later moved to Garden City in 1967. Sylvia has lived in Garden City since. A homemaker, Sylvia enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, collecting Avon, playing Bingo, and going to the casino. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include three children Michael & wife Genevieve McVey of Garden City, Marsha & husband David Rupp of Garden City, and Jerry & wife Linda McVey of Garden City; a brother Jim Garber of Miami, Oklahoma; two sisters Carol Turley of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Betty Newman of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Donald who died on December 9, 2001. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Robert Garber and Sam Garber; and two sisters Thelma Marsh and Patsy Shelton.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Von Hunn officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the VFW in care of the funeral home.
