Obituary for Lucy R Hernandez
Lucy R. Hernandez, 78 departed to her heavenly home on Wednesday June 26, 2019 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in Menard, Texas on July 13, 1940 and is the daughter of Ysabel & Maclovia Roman.
Lucy was raised in Menard, Texas where she attended school. She married Ernesto “Ernest” G. Hernandez on August 13, 1957. Ernest and Lucy moved to Garden City, Kansas in 1970. Ernesto died September 19, 2010.
Lucy retired as a Deli Clerk for Dillon’s after 25 years and was an active volunteer at St. Catherine Hospital. She was a member of St Dominic Church. She enjoyed watching football, was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and even joined a few fantasy football leagues. She never forgot a family birthday and loved life. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and wanted all of her loved ones to put him first in their lives as well.
Survivors include her children, Natalia Gonzales of Miami, Florida, Ernest Hernandez Jr. of Garden City, Kansas, Rudy Hernandez of Wichita, Kansas, Maggie Dukes of Wichita, Kansas and Nellie Stevens of Derby, Kansas. Lucy has 17 grandchildren & 28 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, her son Marcus Hernandez of McKinney, Texas and her parents preceded her in death.
A rosary will be held on Sunday June 30, 2019, 3:30 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas. The funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday July 1, 2019 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Garden City, Kansas.
