Obituary for Josephine Otero

Josephine Otero, 80, died August 17, 2019 at her home in Wichita. She was born May 21, 1939 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of Santiago & Louisa (Navarro) Ramirez.



Josephine was born and raised in Garden City, Kansas. On April 27, 1957 she married Daniel S. Otero at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. He died December 6, 2010. Josephine and Daniel moved to Chicago and relocated to Garden City in the mid 1970’s. In addition to attending to her family, she had worked at USD 457, Stroh Cleaners and owned and operated Josie’s Country Store with her husband. She attended church regularly and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City before she and her husband moved to Wichita in 2008. Always a survivor, she fought and beat colon cancer and strongly battled MDS/Leukemia. She enjoyed cross-stitching, canning salsa, cooking, spending time with her children and keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by parents and siblings- Mary Lou Baca , Lupe Minjarez and infant Andrew Bravo.



She is survived by her children-Victor Otero of Garden City, Kansas, Dan Otero of Wichita, Kansas, Mary & Tim Jamieson of Wichita, Kansas, Shirley & Fernando Arteaga of Garden City, Kansas, Dolores Otero of Wichita, Kansas & Ralph Otero of Wichita, Kansas; Siblings- Dolores Pena, Rose Gonzalez & Connie Palacios; 8 Grandchildren & 23 Great Grandchildren.



The Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday August 21, 2019 and Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday August 22, 2019 both at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, KS with Rev. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Wednesday August 21, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City.
