Obituary for Lois J. Avalon
Lois J. Avalon, 71, died Monday, September 23, 2019 at The Ranch House in Garden City. She was born August 4, 1948 in Norfolk, Nebraska the daughter of Vernol Anthony & Stella Olivia (Klein) Beckman.
Lois grew up in the Petersburg, Nebraska area. She attended St. John’s Catholic School where she graduated from high school in 1968. Lois later worked at the hospital in Albion, Nebraska. She moved to southwest Kansas in 1980 living in Lakin, Deerfield and Garden City. A homemaker, Lois later worked for H&R Block before working at Wal-Mart. After 18 years with Wal-Mart, Lois retired in 2012. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City and she enjoyed knitting and quilting.
On August 22, 1970, she married Manuel Obieta Avalon in Petersburg, Nebraska. He survives. Other survivors include four children John Avalon of Holcomb, Kansas, Amy Woods of Wichita, Kansas, Russell Avalon of Papillion, Nebraska, & Earl Avalon of Garden City, Kansas; five brothers Dale Beckman of Petersburg, Nebraska, Paul Beckman of Elgin, Nebraska, Roger Beckman of Petersburg, Nebraska, Jim Beckman of Petersburg, Nebraska, & Tom Beckman of Norfolk, Nebraska; two sisters June Racely of Columbus, Nebraska and Karen Meikle of Norfolk, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to St. Dominic Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
