Obituary for Ignacio Robert "Bobby" Avila

Garden City- Ignacio Robert “Bobby” Avila, 76 died on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on May 3, 1943 at Garden City the son of Ignacio “Buck” & Consuelo (Rea) Avila. He married Patti Rice.

Bob grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School and attended Los Angeles City College. He worked at Ideal Food Stores in Garden City and then was transferred to Liberal. He later worked at National Beef Packing Company in liberal before moving back to Garden City and working in safety for Monfort Packing Company. After retiring he worked at Dillons and them moved to Wichita in 2014. Bob was an avid sports fan. His passions included Yankees baseball, watching his father train boxers, coaching little league and attending ball games. He also was a car enthusiast, loved western movies and was a war history virtuoso. He was strong in his faith and enjoyed spending time with his friends, family (especially grandchildren), and adored his dogs and grand-dogs. He was a gentle soul that loved people and was beloved by all who know him.

He is survived by his wife- Patti Avila, Daughter- Kristi Kells (Chris) , Son- Brandon Avila (Laura) and 6 Grandchildren- Brooklyn Avila of Derby, Destiny Avila of Garden City, Breyanna Avila of Lawrence, Halle Rico, Lucas Rico & Kendyl Rico all of Derby. He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:0 PM Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Ignacio Avila Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
