Obituary for Reta Mae Dale

Reta Mae Dale, 84, died Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at her home in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 22, 1935 in Tucson, Arizona the daughter of Arthur Elwood & Eunice (Conatser) Smith.

Reta grew up as a young child in Joplin, Missouri. In 1950, she moved with her family to Garden City where she attended Garden City schools. On June 30, 1961, she married James Lee “Jim” Dale Walsenburg, Colorado. They lived in Spanish Peaks, Colorado, Garden City, Kansas, and later moved to Lakin, Kansas in 1971. They have lived in Lakin since. A homemaker, Reta also worked at Dillons bakery, Wall’s IGA, and Target. Reta served on the Deerfield School Board and the Kansas State Board of Education. She was a member of Prairie Winds and Trail Piecers Quilting Club. Reta’s hobbies include painting, quilting, cooking, and had a love for animals especially her dogs.

Survivors include three children Joanna Bowles of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Pat (Roxanna) Dale of Spring, Texas, and Jeff Dale of Lakin, Kansas; a sister Janet Mullikin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother Dennis E. Smith of Marion, Kansas; nine grandchildren Johnny Romo, Danielle Grant, Stephanie Garcia, Thomas Dale, Randy Kells, Sky Kells, Star Daley, Corben Dale, & Kalee Dale; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces. Deceased family members include her husband James Lee “Jim” Dale; her parents; and a grandson Cody Dale.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Deerfield United Methodist Church in Deerfield, Kansas with Rev. Heureuse Kaj officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Humane Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
