Obituary for Wayne F. Miller
Deerfield- Wayne F. Miller, 83, died on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. He was born on November 2, 1936 at Garden City the son of Ted E. & Emma M. (Urie) Miller. He married Carol Jean Wolff on May 31, 1958 at Garden City.
Wayne attended a country school in Kearny County and graduated from Deerfield High School. He then earned his Bachelor’s of Science in History and Agriculture from Fort Hays State University. He returned to Deerfield and was a life long farmer in Kearny County while also serving in the United States Army Reserves from 1960 to 1968. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Deerfield, Knights of Columbus in Lakin, served on the Kearny County Ditch Board for 39 years until this year and served 8 years on the Deerfield School Board. He enjoyed hunting arrowheads, his trips to casinos to play blackjack and the regular Country Corner Coffee Group.
He is survived by his wife- Carol Jean Miller, Son- Larry & Karen Miller of Deerfield, Daughter- Cindy Miller of Deerfield, Sister- Wanda & Steve Bravdica of Littleton, Colorado, Grandchildren- Jason & Josslyn Miller, Brandon & Jessica Miller, Aaron Miller, Jennifer & Levi Sperry, James Pettz, Amber Pettz, Danielle Pettz-Morgante & Matt Morgante, Great-Grandchildren- Isabelle Miller, Sadie Miller, Blaine Sperry, Raylee Sperry, Evelynn Sperry, Kylie Morgante & Claire Morgante.
Vigil Service will be at 6:30 PM Monday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Tuesday both at St Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin with Rev. Peter Tran as Celebrant. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery with military honors by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard and American Legion District 8 Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Christ The King Catholic Church or St Anthony Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
