Obituary for Freda D. Long

Freda D. Long, 76, died on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on August 4, 1943 in Stoddard County, Missouri the daughter of Willard “Bill” & Opal (Richard) Cox. She married Ben Harmon Long on April 25, 1961 in Stoddard County Missouri. He died on March 10, 2012.

Freda and Harmon moved to Kansas in 1966 and lived in Copeland for a short time before moving to Garden City. Freda worked various jobs and at Oswalt Industries as a Floor Supervisor. She then went to work at USD 457 as a custodian at Friend, Jennie Wilson and mainly at Victor Ornales School. She and Harmon moved back to Bernie, Missouri in 1996. Freda returned to Garden City in 2016 to be nearer family and friends. While in Bernie, she was a member of the Baptist Church where she volunteered with various activities. Her special interests were sewing, quilting and especially being involved with her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She also enjoyed sitting outside on the porch swing and visiting with her neighbors. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 2 Sons- Bruce Long and Floyd “Randy” Long, 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters.

She is survived by her Son- Scott Long of Garden City, Daughter-In-Law- Karan Long of Garden City and Kelly Long of Satanta, 2 Brothers – Mike Cox of Middlebrook, Missouri and Roger Cox of Hazelhurst, Wisconsin; 3 Sisters – Barbara White and husband Prentis of Pierceville, Kansas; Kathy Taylor of Goreville, Illinois and Sharon Greemore and husband Robert of Portageville, Missouri; 6 Grandchildren – Tonya Claussen of Garden City, Jeremy Long and wife Amy of Deerfield, Randal Long of Garden City, Brandon Long and wife Maggie of Alton, Lisa Wood and husband Justin of Satanta, Megan Long and fiancée Zach Day of Moscow and 12 Great-Grandchildren.

Her Celebration of Living will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
