Obituary for Ross E. "Earl" Pile

Ross E. “Earl” Pile, 85, died Monday, November 25, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born December 10, 1933 in Tribune, Kansas the son of Ross Ellsworth & Alice (Allen) Pile.

Earl grew up and attended school in Tribune, Kansas. He graduated from Greeley County High School. In 1951, he moved to Garden City where he attended and graduated from Garden City Junior College. While attending Garden City Junior College, Earl participated in football, basketball and track. Earl was the owner and operator of Pile Trucking, which he ran until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City and served as an usher for more than thirty years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Earl enjoyed making jewelry, watching football and basketball, and coaching and attending softball games in Garden City.

On August 27, 1953, he married Marnieta L. “Marti” Wasinger in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Donald R. & wife Patti Pile and Michael J. Pile both of Garden City; two sisters Dorothy Cowden of Ordway, Colorado and Elaine Stephens of Fowler, Colorado; a step-brother Darwin & wife Barbara Hoffman of Tribune, Kansas; two grandchildren Kasey Pile-Parker and husband Gabe and Sadie Miller and husband Craig; and four great grandchildren Breckin McClure, Cambria McClure, Kendrick Parker, & Jermaine Parker. Earl is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father Donald Hatfield.

A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
