Obituary for Maria "Lucy" Maldonado
Maria “Lucy” Maldonado, 58, died Wednesday December 4, 2019, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born April 11, 1961, in Velardena, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Jose & Micaela (Espino) Cruz.
Maria grew up in Ejido La Maroma, Coahuila, Mexico, moved to Deerfield in 1981 and later married Rodolfo Maldonado February 18, 1995 in Deerfield. She had worked as a cashier in the cafeteria at Tyson. She was quite the dancer, her favorite group was Los Hermanos Barron. Maria liked cooking for her family and they enjoyed her excellent dishes, which were always prepared with great love. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and attended church regularly when her health permitted
She is survived by her husband- Rodolfo Maldonado of the home; daughters- Nallely Ramirez and Josh Longoria & Aracely (Casper) Figueroa of Dodge City; grandchildren- Jasmin, Noel, Jayla, Xavier, Arriana, & Joseph (Peanut Butter) ; father- Jose Cruz & siblings-Maria de Jesus Orta, Silvia Guerra, Mario Cruz & Victoria Torres and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria is preceded in death by her Mother Micaela Cruz & siblings- Carlos Cruz, Angelica Cortez, and infant twins.
Vigil service will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday December 8, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home and funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday December 9, 2019, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will follow at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until Vigil Service time on Sunday December 8, 2019, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
