Monica S. Centeno, 58, died Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born July 5, 1961 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of Epifanio “Pete” & Gloria (Alonzo) Garcia.
Monica has lived most of her life in Garden City. She attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1980. She then attended and graduated from the Garden City Community College School of Cosmetology. After working for a short time as a cosmetologist, she later became a CNA where she worked for SDSI, then St. Catherine Hospital. Monica married Anselmo Centeno in Garden City. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Monica enjoyed cooking, music, dancing, taking care of people, animals especially her dogs Oscar & Buckley, and spending time with her family especially her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a son Alex Centeno of Garden City; a brother Eppy (Elaine) Garcia, Jr. of Garden City; a sister Victoria (Anthony) Guadian of Arlington, Texas; five nieces and nephews Vanessa (Michael) Ornelas of Ft. Worth, Texas, Aaron (Pat) Guadian of Arlington, Texas, Eppy Garcia III of St. Louis, Missouri, Sophia Garcia of Wichita, Kansas, & Cippy Garcia of Garden City, Kansas; and five great nieces and nephews. Monica is preceded in death by her parents.
A Vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Monica Centeno Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
