Obituary

Mary H. (Ramos) Perez, 84, peacefully passed on to eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, in Las Vegas NV. Mary was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Lakin KS to Jose and Jiennie (Hernandez) Ramos. Mary and her husband Valentine eloped to Cimarron KS, marrying in the Catholic church soon after, on Oct. 1, 1952, in Lakin KS. They were happily married for 67 years.
Mary was a devout Catholic who attended mass every Sunday with Valentine. One of her favorite prayer devotions was praying the rosary frequently with her husband. She prayed the Lord’s Prayer every night up until the night before she passed away.
Mary was a volunteer at the Lakin Budget Shop and enjoyed it greatly. She was a member of Lakin’s St. Anthony’s Altar Society group and often helped out with funeral dinners.
Mary was an avid sport’s fan, rarely missing any sporting events that her family members were involved in and loved cheering them on. She enjoyed watching NFL football games on TV, rarely missing any, especially the KC Chiefs! Another TV favorite was watching cowboy western shows daily.
Mary loved to crochet and crocheted countless afghans for her grandchildren, the last one being for her recently born great -great grandchild who she was planning on meeting during the holidays. Her most favorite hobby was traveling the country with her husband, frequently visiting the CO Rocky Mountains. For many years, Mary and Val became snowbirds and lived in Phoenix AZ during the winter, close to their son Anthony and his family.
Mary was preceded in death by her “Forever” husband, Valentine, who passed away five months ago. Her parents Jose and Jiennie Ramos and two infant siblings, Frances and Pete Ramos, also preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memories are her three sons-, Joseph and wife Irene Perez of Las Vegas NV, Chris and wife Betty Perez of Overland Park KS, and Anthony Perez of Phoenix AZ; four brothers-, Joe Ramos and Pete Ramos of Lakin KS and Tony Ramos and Bob Ramos of Garden City KS; five sisters, Christine Escalada and Josephine Gunter of Garden City KS; Pauline Neff of Lakin KS, and Elva Escalada and Frances Gonzalez of Wichita KS. Mary was grandmother to six, great grandmother to twelve and recenty great-great grandmother to a baby girl.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10:00 AM, St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin KS, with Rev Peter Tran as celebrant. Burial will be at Lakin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St Anthony Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.

Deepest and sincere condolences to the family. Aunt Mary will be missed. I have the fondest memories visiting with her at the many family get togethers we have had as well as a number of vacations we have had with her and Uncle Val when I was growing up. I always enjoyed the many conversations we have had. Our thoughts and prayers will be the family.
