Obituary for Jesus De Leon
Jesus De Leon, 88, died Monday January 20, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born March 20, 1931 at Apaseo, Zacatecas, Mexico the son of Melecio De Leon and Ma. Tiodora Cruz.
Mr De Leon attended grade school and grew up in Apaseo Zacatecas, Mexico. He had also lived in Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Texas, California, & Wisconsin before settling in Garden City, Kansas. He had worked as a seasonal agriculture worker and most recently at Monfort before retiring in 1990’s. He married Maria Vicenta Cruz Castruita on 1963 at Nieves, Zacatecas, Mexico. She died January 27, 2010. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and attended Mass regularly. He loved to listen to music and dance. He was always ready with a kind word, helpful gesture, or friendly smile.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by 1 great grandchild- Jayden Castilleja.
Survivors include his children- Delma Diaz of Garden City,Ks, Hector De Leon of Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico, Maria De Leon of Garden City, KS and Cristobal De Leon of Dodge City, KS; 6 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held at 10:30 am with Funeral Mass to follow on Thursday January 23, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, Kansas. Visitation will follow the same day from 1:00- 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, Ks. 620-276-3219. Another Funeral Mass and Burial will take place in Mexico at a later date so he may be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. Family suggests memorials to St. Mary Catholic Church.
