Obituary for Ethel Lois Simshauser

Lakin- Ethel Lois Simshauser, 92, died on Monday, January 27, 2020 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. She was born on July 30, 1927 to Fred and Mary (Bohl) Kleeman in Lakin Township, Kearny County near the city of Lakin, Kansas.

She married Norman F. Simshauser on November 25, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Lakin. After graduating from Lakin High School she worked in Dr. Sabo’s office as the receptionist/ office nurse. After her marriage, she and Norman managed the appliance store in Deerfield. She worked in Ted Morgan’s office after they moved back to Lakin. She was judge pro-tem for several years. Ethel was a devoted farm wife and mother of four children.

Ethel was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on the alter committee and service groups. She was a long time member of the North Kearny EHU. She loved bowling and was the secretary of many bowling leagues. Norman and Ethel were very actively involved with the Senior Center of Lakin. They went on numerous trips with the seniors. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, counted cross-stitch making cross-stitch pillows for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to play cards and dominos. Ethel enjoyed having Christmas and other holidays at her house for all the family, and spending time with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her time at High Plains Retirement Village making many friends there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister- Edith Kelly, and brother- Earl Kleeman, 5 grandchildren- Jason and Andria Rice, Jacob and Garrett Simshauser and Scotty Chaloupek.

She is survived by three daughters- Carol A. Rice and husband J.D., Evelyn K. Gestenslager and husband Steve, Noretta F. Hesslink and husband Ted, Son- William A. Simshauser and wife Diane, brother- Leonard Kleeman, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakin with Rev Warren Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 PM Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
