Obituary

Norma Jean Brengman, 90, died Monday February 3, 2020 at her home in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 1, 1929 in Lakin, the daughter of Ernest L. and Dorothy (Harbaugh) Kleeman.
Jean grew up in Lakin and attended the local schools graduating from Lakin High School as Valedictorian of her class. On May 15, 1949 she married Leighton Brengman, he passed away in 2011.
Jean and Leighton moved around some but always stayed close to the area living in Johnson, Elkhart, and back to Lakin. Jean worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper in Johnson and then as an accountant for Pioneer Telephone until retirement. She was strong in her faith and often times one of the first ones to church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, watching jeopardy and sports, and playing solitaire. She was a member of the Church’s quilting group, making or finishing quilts to be sent to those in need in other countries.
Jean is survived by her son Ray and Marajo Brengman of Lakin, Kansas, one brother Darrel Kleeman of Ulysses, Kansas, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Marsha Ann, and her parents.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 7, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakin, Kansas with Rev. Warren Prochnow officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. The family suggests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas.
