Obituary

Colleen G. Penner, age 62, of Hooker, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. She was born November 1, 1957, in Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of William E. and Alice B. (Sylvester) Hacker.

Colleen was a retired Engineer Technician for Amoco Production Company. After living in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Texas, she settled once again in Hooker, Oklahoma.

Colleen inherited artistic talent from her mother, and loved photography. She would often chronicle family vacations through her photographs. She enjoyed traveling to different places, both in the US and abroad. She particularly loved traveling to the Colorado Rockies for summer vacations, a practice that started as a child and continued throughout her adult life. She enjoyed introducing her boys to many of the places she had visited as a child. Colleen also took great pleasure in watching her boys mature and grow into the adults they are today.

Colleen is survived by two sons, Eric Penner of Houston, Texas, and Kevin Penner and wife, Allie, of Sugar Land, Texas; mother, Alice Hacker of Hooker, Oklahoma; two brothers, Mike Hacker and wife, Vivian, of Lone Jack, Missouri, and Ron Hacker of Vinita, Oklahoma; one sister, Connie Carson and husband, Billy, of Enid, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Amber Penner of Sugar Land, Texas; two nephews, two nieces and their children.

Colleen is preceded in death by her father, William E. Hacker; and daughter, Amber Michelle Penner.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.

We were very saddened to hear of Colleen's passing. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with all of you. I remember her for being so loving and kind as my cousin when we spent time together at the holidays in Tyrone, Hooker and on the farm. She had a great sense of humor and always made me feel welcome and loved.

Love to Eric and Kevin. Your mom was so special and loved you both greatly. Remembering the good old days at Hickok School. Eric, do you still enjoy Star Trek?

I was so profoundly saddened to hear of Colleen’s passing, and equally sad that we had lost touch these past few years. I will always remember her as a thoughtful, caring, and supportive friend. We shared so many countless memories, and good times with our families. You will be missed, my friend. You’ll always be in my heart. Rest In Peace.
Love, Joni

So very sorry to learn Colleen had passed. She was such a joyful, intelligent young lady as I knew her all the way thru Tyrone Schools and at Southwestern Okla State University. She had such a kind heart.
