He was my 5th grade math teacher. My favorite teacher to be exact. He was funny and we always joked about how he looked like Tony Stark. He had a pet stapler named Stacy. He made math class fun and his classroom was always comforting with a warm feeling. I sobbed when I heard he died I can't imagine what it's like for the family. I'm sorry for what happened, but Mr. Herrera wouldn't want anyone to cry over him. He wants his family to be happy. May God be with you all.

I met Brian when I hired him for a job at the candy counter in the KU Union in the mid 90’s. He had a great sense of humor and we became fast friends. He was so much fun to work with and wonderful person. We recently reconnected after 20 years on Facebook in December last year. I had no idea he passed away until today when I decided to wish him a happy birthday. I was confused and then heartbroken to see the subsequent posts. My condolences to friends and family for a life cut way too short.

Brian was the nicest guy ever! He was just the type of person that everyone liked because he was just a great guy and a friend to everyone. I remember the very first time I realized what a great guy he was and it was a simple gesture but it meant a lot to me.... he dated my sister years ago, we are twins so of course he would get Kari a card for her birthday but then when he gave a card to me as well....i just wasn’t expecting it and for years after he would still make sure to include me. Brian was just a thoughtful, sweet caring person! You will be missed by so many! So sorry to all his family and friends.

Brian became one of my best friends - and then my first real love - at age 17. I am thankful after our break up 2.5 years later, our friendship did not end - and in fact it got stronger, closer and mutually supportive . Brian met both my kids and I remember how much they loved him and glad they remember him today as well. Brian's warm, caring and empathetic personality - along with his wonderful sense of humor - touched my life in a very positive and impactful way. I am thankful for so many great memories. I remember going to a Herrera family reunion in Garden City -so much love and such a tight knit and loving family. My deepest condolences.
