Obituary for Brian Scott Herrera

Brian Scott Herrera age 49, died February 11, 2020 at his home in Houston, TX. He was born April 11, 1970 in Garden City, KS, son of John and Rita Herrera.

Brian graduated from Garden City High School in 1988 and then graduated from KU in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and had an ESL certificated with English as a seconded language. Brian enjoyed riding bikes, working out, loved to sing and karaoke, and spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews and his friends that he would say was his second family. He also enjoyed changing his student’s lives by way of teaching and connecting with his students. We will always have him in our hearts and prayers.

Brian was proceeded in death by his father John Herrera, mother Rita Herrera and his niece Elody ( Cha Cha Bear) Herrera. Brian is survived by his brothers, sisters and their spouses. John and Nancy Herrera, Kansas City ; Judy and Tracy Rogers, Lawrence KS , SC; Beatrice Herrera, Garden City, KS; Bob and Danis Herrera, Garden City, KS; Tommy and Josie Herrera, Shawnee, KS; Phillip and Andrea Herrera, Topeka, KS; Steven (Chino) and Jennifer Herrera, Topeka, KS; Patrick and Sabrina Herrera, Garden City, KS; Becky and Brad Herron, Kansas City, KS; Vicky and Paul Olson, Garden City, KS; Zelda and Eric Mizell, Garden City, KS; Francine and Jose Varela, Fort Morgan, CO; Curtis and Miel Herrera, Kansas City, KS; he also has 45 niece’s and nephew’s and 63 great niece and nephew’s.

Funeral will be held at the Corner Stone Church 2901 N 8th St. Garden City, KS 67846. Service will be on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 with Pastor Ed Binns. The family requests memorials be given to Teach for America in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
