Verna Herman, 90, long time resident of Garden City, Kansas, passed away March 5, 2020 at Forest Creek in Overland Park, Kansas. Verna was born August 2, 1929 in Horace, Kansas to William and Minnie (Okerbloom) Boles. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1947 and attended Ottawa University. On January 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Richard Herman. They raised two sons Tom and Richard and two daughters Becky and Roxanne.
Verna worked at the Garden City Company and then for Southwestern Bell until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed doll collecting, sewing, genealogy, swimming and traveling to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna was very social and enjoyed visiting daily with the numerous friends she made throughout her lifetime. She was known for her infectious smile, sense of humor and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Verna was preceded in death by her father, William, mother, Minnie, brother, Billy and her loving husband of 54 years, Rich.
She is survived by her four children, Tom Herman of Garden City, Richard and wife Diana Herman of Warrensburg, MO, Becky Budke of Olathe, Kansas and Roxanne and husband Barry Priest of Overland Park, Kansas, eight grandchildren, Brett Budke and wife Jessica, Brooke (Budke) Wiltse and husband Tray, Whitney Mcgee, Weston Herman, Morgan Priest, Kara Priest, Haley Priest, Reagan Priest and great-grandchildren, Boston Budke, and Mason, Makenna and Mya Wiltse.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
