Obituary for John H. Bernasky

Garden City- John H. Bernasky, 84, died on Friday, April 24, 2020 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on February 28, 1936 at Garden City the son of Marion & Frances (Ragland) Bernasky. He married Judith Phipps on August 22, 1960.

John attended Ingalls schools until his senior year when he transferred to St Mary of the Plains High School. He then attended Dodge City Community College and Garden City Community College. He served 4 years in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. After his discharge he returned to Garden City and in 1980 started Garden City Auto Parts which he has owned for 40 years and also had his “farming hobby”. He enjoyed helping people whenever he could. He was a member of St Dominic Catholic Church and had served on the Parish Committee for the new parish center and was a Eucharistic Minister and Greeter at the church.

He is survived by his Wife- Judy Bernasky, 3 Sons- James Bernasky of Wichita, Jake Bernasky and wife Sandy of Garden City & Joel Bernasky of Marietta, Georgia, Sister- Jane Embree of Garden City, 3 Grandchildren- Jonny Bernasky and wife Marie & Jessica Bernasky both of Garden City and Abe Bernasky of Marietta, Georgia, 3 Step-Grandsons- Tyler Unruh and wife Alex of Overland Park, Greg Unruh of Colorado Springs, Colorado & Joe Cavanaugh of Roswell, Georgia and 3 Great-Grandchildren- Evelyn, Dean & Jack. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Step-Grandson- Dave Unruh.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. The service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page.
