Obituary for Sharon K. Fenton

Sharon K. Fenton, 75, died Sunday, May 10, 2020 at her home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born September 21, 1944 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of George & Bernice (Nolder) Wells.

Sharon lived in various places with her family before moving back to the Holcomb and Garden City area where she attended Holcomb Schools. On April 30, 1960, she married Arnold Dean Fenton in Garden City. Sharon was a hard worker and very intelligent. She worked for Lewis, Hooper, & Dick Accounting, Dr. Hunsberger, the Finney County Courthouse, and American Implement where she retired as a business manager. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Holcomb, Kansas, served on the James Draw Watershed, and was the first woman to serve on the Holcomb City Council. Sharon enjoyed golfing, bowling, and square dancing.

Survivors include three children Deana (Tim) Novack of Lakin, Kansas, Troy (Denise) Fenton of Wichita, Kansas, and Janet (Andy) Smaltz of Johnson, Kansas; three sisters Shirley Brickey of Allen, Texas, Dorothy Wells of Claremore, Oklahoma, & Debbie Doyle of Claremore, Oklahoma; a brother David Wells of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren Megan Hansel, Sarah Batten, Lyndsey “Raymond” Ekstrum, Clayton Smaltz, Tyler Fenton, Katie Novack, Anike Oleski, & Jeffrey Smaltz; and nine great-grandchidlren Bryson Hansel, Blake Hansel, Sydney Ekstrum, Mikayla Hansel, Wyatt Ekstrum, Kinzie Batten, Bowen Fenton, Brynlie Batten, & Jonathan Batten. Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Arnold who died on July 9, 2009. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Tanner Dean Born; a sister Patricia Noah; and two brothers Marvin Wells and Danny Wells.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Holcomb, Kansas with Pastor Jon Sanders officiating. The service may also be viewed via Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the First Baptist Church of Holcomb in care of the funeral home.
