Jason Wade Hickman, 49, died Tuesday, June 30th at his home in Ulysses, KS. He was born in Ulysses on April 7, 1971 the son of Darrel and Lynette (Lane) Hickman. Except for his college years, he was a lifelong resident of Ulysses.

Jason graduated from Ulysses High School in 1989. He earned his Associates degree from Dodge City Community College. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

He married Julie Anne Porter on August 13, 1994. After graduation, they moved back to Ulysses, and Jason worked with his dad. Together they poured and finished concrete all over Kansas, Eastern Colorado, Oklahoma, parts of Texas, and even Arkansas. H&H Construction was highly sought after for their services. When Darrel retired and sold H&H Construction, Jason went to work for Linn Energy, then Scout.

Jason loved to spend time outdoors. He liked to hunt with a gun or bow - whatever was in season. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching the Chicago Bears. One of his favorite hobbies was raising goats, chickens, and calves. During the summer, he liked to spend time at the lake and enjoyed skiing at Monarch during the winter. Jason had a smile for everyone, and whenever there were kids around he could be found entertaining them. He loved his son, Joshua, and enjoyed watching him play sports.

Survivors include his parents Darrel and Lynette Hickman, Julie and son Joshua Hickman, his In-laws Steven and Jane Porter all of Ulysses, his sister Kim Schubert and her husband Dale of Dodge City, KS, sister-in-law Stephanie Shivers and her husband Tyler of Winfield, KS and many family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020, 2:00 pm at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, KS with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. Services will also be available on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live. Graveside service will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Joshua Hickman Education Fund or Pheasants Forever/Northfork Tailgunners in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Darrell and Lynette, Ron and I are so sorry to hear of Jason's passing. I had my hip replaced Monday and have been down for a bit. Just know that we are thinking of you and the family. May God bless you.

I knew Jason his whole life because when my parents moved to Ulysses in 1964, they rented from his grandparents. Our families became instant friends. We had a lot of good times in Valley View which often meant someone needed first aid but the memories made will stay with me forever. We also enjoyed drinking a lot of beer together!! He was a great guy and always had a kind word for me. You will be missed my friend! Ride on!
