Obituary for Mark A. Renick

On Monday, June 13, 2022, Mark A. Renick, 69, of Cimarron, Ks., passed away from complications related to cancer.

Mark was born on April 13, 1953, to Donald Ray and Lola Margaret (Hoskinson) Renick in Garden City, Ks., and graduated from Ingalls High School in 1971. He married Carol (Porter) Roush in 1975 and they had three children, Christie, Starla and Derrick. In 1994 he married Cheri (Pauley) Renick.

Mark lived most of his life in southwest Kansas, working on the family farm in Charleston, but over the years he also resided in Phoenix, Az., Wickenburg, Az., Winnemucca, Nv., and Las Vegas, Nv. He spent his final years running his own handyman business and repairing small appliances, helping anyone and everyone in the community.

Aside from helping his friends and family, Mark most valued traveling and spending time with loved ones and friends. Mark also loved music and selected a handful of songs to summarize how he felt about his life and what he wanted his friends and family to remember about him. Mark is survived by his wife, Cheri, his children, Christie and Derrick and Derrick’s wife Heather, his step-children David (Andrea) Sandoval and Eric (Debbie) Sandoval, his daughter-in-law Shawn Sandoval, his siblings, Mike (Judy) Renick, Bruce (Joyce) Renick, Gary (Dosha) Renick, Janice Renick, and Julie Renick (Duane) Walker, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren: KayLoni, Madison, Jasmine, Niketa, Zaine, Branson, Dawson, Katerina, Josh, Samantha, Chloe, Amber, Autumn, Erica, London and Jet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Margaret Renick, his daughter Starla, and his stepson Terry Sandoval.

The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone in the community who helped Mark navigate his journey with cancer over the past five years, including The Cimarron Church of the Nazarene, Leave a Legacy Foundation, Do the Wright Thing, Heartland Cancer Center and Central Care Cancer Center.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Cimarron Church of the Nazarene. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Cimarron High School Gymnasium in Cimarron, Kansas with Pastor Tom Boese officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.

Donations to help cover medical and funeral expenses can be sent to the Mark Renick Memorial Fund, care of Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, or mailed to First National Bank in Cimarron. The family may give any excess donations to Leave a Legacy Foundation, Do the Wright Thing and/or the American Cancer Society.

Mark’s smile, sense of humor and optimism will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
