Obituary for Peggy Sue Pettz

Peggy Sue (Small) Pettz, 81, died Sunday June 26, 2022 at her home in Deerfield, Kansas. She was born June 23, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of Clarence Adrin and Claudine June (Johnson) Small.

Peggy came to the Garden City area with her parents when she was young, attended Holcomb schools, and married Ronald Lee Pettz on October 3, 1959. Together they built their ranch and farm operation, of which she was a fully involved partner. Her family was most important to her, but she also had a passion for her flowers, fishing, baking, and sewing. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She could outwork anyone, had her feet firmly grounded in the western Kansas soil, and she was known for her kindness and loving nature.

Survivors include her four children Brenda (Doug) Harder of Garden City, Kansas, Jeffrey Pettz of Kearney, Nebraska, Rhonda (Wade) Kraft of Kearney, Missouri, and Christopher Pettz of Deerfield, Kansas, siblings Deanne (John) Roth, Connie Schaffer, Sherry Tabor, Cathy (Ralph) Adams, Penny Brungardt, and Bob Small, twelve grandchildren Catherine (Len) Fick, Russell Harder, Carolyn (Josh) Weist, Anthony Pettz, Julia (Brandon) Leonard, Rebecca (John) Larson, Monica (Joe) Jasper, Nicole Ragland (Curt Coppinger), Candace Kraft, Jennifer (Levi) Sperry, Danielle (Matt) Morgante, James Pettz, & Amber Pettz; and 27 great-grandchildren. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a granddaughter Candace Kraft.

A Rosary Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. with Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 1, 2022 both at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Tran as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. The family suggests memorials given to St. Catherine hospice in care of the funeral home.
