Obituary for Carol June Klaus

Carol June Klaus, 90, died Friday, August 5, 2022 at her home in Garden City surrounded by family and friends after a short but brutal fight with cancer. She was born April 17, 1932 in Finney County to Leo and Carrie (Foreman) Martin. She resided on the family farm north of Holcomb, KS. As the oldest of six, she helped with the farm by operating trucks and tractors. She attended Holcomb High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. On November 15, 1958, in Tucumcari, N.M. she married Anton “Tony” Klaus and resided in Holcomb, KS and then in 1995 they moved to Garden City, KS. Carol was proudly the head cook at Holcomb Schools for 25 years and retired in 1994. She was known for her homemade noodles and her cinnamon rolls, which were often requested for local bake sales and weddings. In addition to her passion for cooking, she took pleasure in spending time with her family, playing cards, reading, watching her grandchildren play sports and visiting with friends. She was a member of St. Dominic Church and of the Healing Love Prayer Group.
She is survived by her sons, Randall (Connie) Goodwin of Lawrence, KS; Kelly (Cindy) Klaus of Garden City, KS; Richard (Tammy) Klaus of Garden City; her siblings Ardyth “Ardy” (Gaylon) Gillam of Garden City, KS; Kent (Lee) Martin of Johnson, KS; Lynn (Lynn) Manske of Bella Vista, AR; Scott (Tammy) Martin of Holcomb, KS; her grandchildren, Melane Brown of Wichita, KS; Darren Burger (Melissa) of Wellston, OK; Jessica Largent of Chicago, IL; Ryan Klaus of Garden City, KS; Stan Klaus of Ottawa, KS; Rachel (Roger) Beane of Belton, MO; Steven Klaus of Hugoton, KS, along with 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony Klaus; daughter, Leslie Largent; and sister, Ila Adams. Carol will be remembered for her devotion to her faith and her dedication to her family.
Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Monday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Tuesday both at St Dominic Catholic Church with Rev Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Funeral Service will be lived streamed on Garnand Funeral Homes Facebook page.Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 5:00 PM Monday at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St Dominic Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
