Obituary for Joseph Andrew Dreiling

Joseph Andrew Dreiling, 85, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at Halsey Hall at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Ft. Dodge, Kansas. He was born March 10, 1937, in Garden City, Kansas the son of Joseph P. & Anna (Burgardt) Dreiling.

Joseph grew up as a young child in Holcomb, Kansas. In the early 1940’s, he moved with his family to Garden City where he attended Garden City Schools. Joseph served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. After the service, he returned to Garden City. On November 29, 1962, he married Janis Elaine Breit in Garden City. In 1970, they moved to Deerfield, Kansas where they have lived since. Joseph worked in various jobs throughout his life including the Garden City Telegram, the Sugar Beet Factory, Kempers, served as manager at Western Alfalfa, worked for various farmers, and for the Garden City Great Western Railroad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2795 in Garden City, and enjoyed spending his time hunting, shooting and reloading ammo, and boxing which he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren.

Survivors include five children Joey Dreiling of Great Bend, Kansas, Becky & husband Kim Norton of Ankeny, Iowa, Chris & wife Susan Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas, Terry & wife Birgit Dreiling of Milford, Kansas, and Cathy Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas; a brother Johnny & wife Verna Dreiling of Garden City, Kansas; four sisters Rosie & husband Curtis Brown of Decorah, Iowa, Dorothy Dreiling of Lamar, Colorado, Sr. Renee Dreiling of Great Bend, Kansas, & Barbara Jean Gamble of Lamar, Colorado; ten grandchildren Hailey Dreiling, Andrew Norton, Alyssa Cole, Taryn Cole, Courtney Arnold, Cameron Cole, Megan Simmoneau, Shawn Dreiling, Ethan Dreiling, & Paula McEachern; and nine great-grandchildren Jordan Cole, Jazmin Richardson, Maxwell Richardson, Kylie Arnold, Brady Arnold, Corey Crowder, Joshua Dreiling, Tristan Simmoneau, & Jaxon Dreiling.

Joseph is preceded in death by his wife Janis who died on February 6, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Sheri Cole; and a brother-in-law Don Gamble.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guards.
