Obituary for Gilbert A Urteaga

Gilbert A. Urteaga, 66, died on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at
Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on March 28, 1956
to Arturo and Amelia (Hernandez) Urteaga in Menard, Texas.

Gilbert was born and raised in Texas. His family moved to Deerfield, Kansas in 1970. Like his
father, Gilbert was a hard worker and held many jobs that took him all over the country. On
January 14th, 1986, he married his wife Sherri in Green River, Wyoming and in 1991, they
moved to Lakin, Kansas to settle down and permanently establish their roots. He dutifully
provided for his family and served his community with resolute humility and an unwavering
devotion to Christ. He attributed his success to the grace of God and made many generous
contributions to the church. He was warm, loving, witty and had an endearing sense of humor.
His favorite pastimes were hunting with his family and friends and watching westerns at home.
He could most often be found on his front porch watching over his neighborhood or driving
around town talking to the members of the community he held dear.
