Obituary for Evonne Lucille Dieker

Evonne “Lucille” Dieker, age 85, of Ulysses, Kansas, died July 20, 2014 at Morton County Care Center, Elkhart, Kansas. She was born April 8, 1929 in Lakin, Kansas the daughter of Alba and Yvonne (Florentine) Ferrell.

Lucille grew up in Lakin and moved to Ulysses in 1947. She married Bernard W. “Bernie” Dieker December 15, 1945 in Syracuse, Kansas; he preceded her in death on May 29, 2012. Lucille worked as a cook at Sullivan Grade School, Western Prairie Care Home and was a Sales Representative for Avon. She was also a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors include: her sons, Stephan Dieker and wife Tamara of Ulysses, Kansas, Eddie Dieker of Iola, Kansas, daughters, Patricia Yohn and husband David of Ulysses, Kansas, Shirley Russ and husband Reford of Yorktown, Virginia, and Deborah Pate and husband Steve of Elkhart, Kansas. One brother Lawrence Ferrell of Ulysses, Kansas and one sister Gladys McMichael of Tempe, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernie, one daughter Laura Lee Dieker, brother Bernard Ferrell, and sisters Marie Urie and Alice Mae Irsik.

Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 and Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday July 23, 2014 both at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses with Reverend James Dieker officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cancer Care Co-Pay Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
