More Than a Teacher

I moved to Holcomb theh last 9 weeks of my 8th grade year.  Mr. D was one of my teachers and coaches.  I can remember as a freshman in PE (which we had with sophomores) someone spit on one of the bulletin boards by the gym.  Mr. D and Coach Spellman tried to get the responsible party to confess, nobody did and nobody snitched.  They lined us up on the gym wall and we each took a swat.  Maybe he should have been a baseball player. LOL.  I got the priveledge of working for Mr. D and Mr. Henry a few years later when they first started in the pool business.  Learned a lot about construction and concrete work with those guys.  After that first pool I helped with (believe it was the Huber twins parents in GC)  I got to smoke my first cigar with them upon completion of the pool.  Man was I ever sick.  I have visited with Mr. D several times since moving back to SW KS.  I just was in his store buying hot tub parts a couple of weeks ago.  He waited on me as I was getting there a little after closing time on a Saturday.   Mr. D was a great teacher, coach, mentor and even a greater man.  I know that he touched not only my life but probably everybody that he ever came into contact with as he just had that type of personality.  To Mr. D's family I pray for your comfort and peace in this time, but know that you will meet again in the streets of heaven.
