Obituary for Verna Randles

On May 2, 2017, Verna Randles left this earth to go “cuttin’ with Shynia” in heaven. She was born November 3, 1938, in Baca County, Colorado, the daughter of James Thomas “J.T.” and L. Marie (Smith) Randles.

Verna lived in Pueblo, Colorado and then moved to Ulysses in 1948. She graduated from Grant Country Rural High School in 1956. Verna owned and operated the Randles Restaurant from 1967 until 1982. She worked as a dietician at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses. Verna enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, crocheting, knitting, embroidering, gardening, and attending rodeos.

She is survived by her son, Todd Randles and wife Susie of Ulysses, Kansas; sisters, Jessie Nickerson and husband, Betty McCauley and husband Chas all of Ulysses, Kansas; sister-in-law, Gayle Lewman of Sublette, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Verna is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sam Randles; granddaughter, Shynia Randles; and nephew, Bryan Lee Wilson.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 10:30 AM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Verna Randles Memorial Fund or to The Legacy at Park View Activity Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
