The Old Plymouth

LeRoy spent much of his time doing for others.  He saw needs and responded.  He made clocks and chests and fine pieces of furniture that are now distributed among the extended family.  In the 1950s, we moved north of Lakin to a dry land farm.  We brought almost nothing with us.  Relatives donated furniture and loaned us a little money for basics.  LeRoy and Dottie saw that we needed some kind of a pickup to carry tools and fuel.  Leroy found an old Plymouth car that someone had cut down to install a homemade rack on the back.  The windows were out, the seats were rump-sprung, the muffler was long gone and the remaining fenders were battered.  LeRoy worked on it and got it running in good shape and fixed the things that needed immediate attention and gave it to Bob.  He expected nothing for it and it served well for several years.  Many years later LeRoy and Bob were talking and Bob reminded him of the favor he had done to provide our basic farm transportation during the drought of the 1950s.  LeRoy did not immediately recollect the event of the old car because it was just what he did.  He made things and gave them to others when he saw a need and kept on looking for ways he could contribute to the lives of others, over and over and again and again.
